60-Second Manifesto

Hi Everyone, I’m Alastair and I’m running for Academic Affairs Officer.

I’ve been heavily involved with academic affairs for the last three years, actively sitting on my department’s staff-student liaison committee, whilst being a course rep and the faculty rep for the sciences. This experience, I believe makes me the perfect candidate for the role.

Over the next year, I want to focus on three key areas that will help improve the academic standards within the university.

Firstly, I want to improve assessment and feedback. Many departments still struggle to provide feedback to their students within 6 weeks, and I want to use the best practice from other departments to try and reduce this time.

Secondly, I want to further improve course rep training and develop the role of faculty reps as supporters to them. Course reps have a far clearer understanding of how each department works than the Academic Affairs Officer ever could, and my ultimate aim is for course reps with their faculty rep to solve all academic issues internally.

Lastly, I want to ensure that when the refurbishment of the library is completed, students are given 24-hour access to this facility, as the money spent on improving it would be wasted if not.

For all these policies and many more, please check out my facebook fan page (at http://on.fb.me/ie2gk7); and don’t forget to vote Alastair for Academic Affairs.
